Smart agriculture and food safety
Pesticide residue analysis, quality control of agricultural exports, and mycotoxin detection.
The problem
Vietnamese agricultural exports regularly face alerts over pesticide residues and mycotoxins in destination markets. A rejected consignment costs more than its own value: it raises inspection frequency for the whole sector. Exporters need to test before shipping, but the cost and turnaround of sending samples to a laboratory means they can only test a very small representative fraction.
How we solve it
A handheld Raman instrument paired with an edge model allows testing at the warehouse and the processing plant, across far more samples than external laboratory testing permits. BIRALAB focuses on two problems: detecting signatures of pesticide residue on produce surfaces, and detecting mycotoxins in cereals. Results include the specific spectral indicators so that the exporter can decide which lots warrant reference testing.
On-site screening does not replace laboratory certificates required for customs clearance. The role of the technology is early risk triage that reduces reference testing costs.
