BIRALAB operates on a non-profit basis. This page sets out our legal status, operating principles, use of funds and the process for receiving support.

Non-profit statement

The BIRALAB research group operates on a non-profit basis. All funding from grants, research projects and science and technology services is used for scientific research, human resource training and community service; no profit is distributed to members. The group is permitted to receive grants and aid from foundations and non-profit organisations, domestic and international, in accordance with the law and with VNU Hanoi regulations.

Four operating principles

  1. a) BIRALAB operates on a non-profit basis, taking community benefit, public health and the advancement of Vietnamese science and technology as its guiding purpose.

  2. b) All lawful income (grant funding, research projects, science and technology services, and donations) is used in full to reinvest in scientific research, technology development, human resource training and community service activities; no profit is distributed to members in any form.

  3. c) The group is eligible and permitted to receive grants and non-refundable aid from science foundations, non-profit organisations and non-governmental organisations, domestic and international, in accordance with the laws of Vietnam and the regulations of VNU Hanoi.

  4. d) Financial activity is managed openly and transparently through the host institution, with periodic reporting as required.

Where funding goes

Indicative allocation for a typical research cycle. Actual proportions for each project are reported to the funder and to the host institution.

Ways to support us

  • Fund a research project

    Fund a defined research direction over 12–36 months, with a proposal, review milestones and reporting on results.

  • Fund equipment

    Fund a spectroscopy system, edge computing hardware or reference materials. Equipment is registered as an asset through the host institution.

  • Fund a doctoral scholarship

    Fund a scholarship for a doctoral candidate or master's student working on Raman × AI, with periodic progress reporting.

  • Fund a workshop

    Fund the annual Vietnam Raman-AI Network workshop and short training courses for provincial laboratories.

How support is received

All funding is received through the host institution, never through a member's personal account.

  1. The funder submits an expression of interest through the contact form under “Funding and foundation partnership”.

  2. BIRALAB responds within ten working days with a research proposal, budget and review milestones.

  3. Both parties agree the content; the file is submitted to the International School, VNU Hanoi, for signature under its regulations.

  4. Funds are transferred to the host institution's account; expenditure is documented and reported periodically.

  5. The funder receives progress and financial reports on the agreed schedule.

Receiving legal entity

International School, Vietnam National University, Hanoi — BIRALAB's host institution. Bank account details, tax identification number and authorised representative are provided directly during contracting; they are not published on the website in order to prevent impersonation.
